I'm in the San Joquin Valley of California and here I've had great success with **calendula, nasturtium, and snapdragon through the winter. In past winters, the black-eyed susan bloomed through the heavy frosts. One of Ben's favorites, I felt it was God's way of letting me know Ben is still with us.
